Cupcakes

How do you like your cupcakes?

Today’s post is just for fun. What could be better than cupcakes! I recently found a cupcake at Trader Joe’s — gluten free! — that I absolutely love. For starters, it’s chocolate, moist and piled with rich white frosting. But what I love best, is the proportion of frosting to cupcake.

For me, every bite has just the right balance. I think I’m that way with cake in general. If it has just the right balance, I’m in heaven. If it doesn’t, say too much frosting or too little, then I work to create a series of balanced bites. If there’s too much frosting — which doesn’t happen often — it will stay on the plate. If there’s not enough frosting, then I tend to slice off the bottom of the cupcake and leave it alone. Are you as fussy as me?

  1. We bought some pure cocoa powder today for my daughter’s hot chocolates that she loves. On the packet was a picture of the most delicious looking chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing. They know how to sell it.

  2. I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t like, er love, cupcakes!! Count me in! That makes me want to make some today for my weekly knitting group, The Knitting Grandmas! Have a great day, I will with my cupcakes!

  3. Now I am hungry. I like a lot of frosting on mine, the more the better. Well, I think I will go find myself a new cupcake recipe and do some hands-on research. Thanks for the information.

  4. Oh well! Now I am am hungry. Not to mention I have just gained about ten pounds looking at these oh so yummy cupcakes. *sigh* Who needs to diet anyway. 😀 What I would like to know though – How can they possibly count how many cupcakes get eaten in a year? Do they have eyes in my house? OR did they only count how many actually get sold from a store so the count is way low. 😛 Okay, now I need to go find a cupcake.

  5. I love cupcakes! I made a dozen snickerdoodle cupcakes this weekend. So good. This post is making me hungry! I love the picture of the ones in the ice cream cones and the ones with the flowers. So creative!

  6. Oh I love cupcakes. I don’t eat many sweets, so it is rare that I have one, but when I do it has to have a buttercream frosting or icing (I do not like whipped cream frosting). I like the first cupcake picture. It is simple and cute. Sometimes cupcakes get too busy anymore. I don’t get them from a shop I make my own 🙂

  7. What a selection of cupcakes you’ve given us in these pictures. Now I’m hungry! My favorite one is the purple one in the first picture.

  8. Hi from Georgia! Who doesn’t love cupcakes! I loved picture #6 with the berries, so yummy. I’m not a cook but when i see one somewhere, i have to have it! Thanks!

  9. I don’t have a cupcake shop in this town. HMM maybe that’s an idea. I like the pic of the purple frosting one. I like cupcakes with surprises in the middle, like candy or filling of some kind. It has to be chocolate of course.

  10. All of these cupcakes are just so beautiful! I really liked the “Frozen” ones that would be perfect for a little girl’s birthday party. My family loves cupcakes, and these are giving me decorating ideas! And after looking at all these pictures, I am craving cake!

  11. On My Goodness!!!!!!. I was sitting here thinking of getting something sweet to eat before I read this. Now I’m going to definitely have to get something !!!. These look delicious. I love the ones in the pretty pink basket. I didn’t know there were specific cupcake days. O.K now I’m going to get something sweet to eat lol

  12. I enjoy cupcakes and I am as fussy as you. I can’t believe how much cupcakes have evolved through the years from very basic to gourmet flavors.

  13. My cousin took a cake/cupcake decorating class and she can make some of the most beautiful cupcakes/cakes ever! I never wanted to eat them, because they were to pretty lol. I don’t like frosting that is too sweet. It makes my teeth hurt just thinking about it. Most of the time I wipe the frosting off and eat the cake part lol. I prefer a creamy type of frosting and not a lot of it.

  14. I loved all your responses because they were just like mine, lol! I had my last cupcake today and it’s a good thing the store isn’t right around the corner, lol! The pictures also made me want to take a decorating class as well.

I hope you enjoyed your sweets today!

    Hugs all around,

  15. I’m in the minority…I’m not a big fan of cupcakes, or any cake for that matter. I’m more of a cookie person. That being said, some of those cupcakes look way too pretty to eat! Thanks for sharing!

  16. I love Red Velvet and Carrot cake Cupcakes and we are lucky enough to have a cupcake shop downtown and a Mast General Store that carries old timey candies & everything but the kitchen sink. I live in Columbia, SC, it’s a great place to live.

  17. I’m so lucky because a bakery in my town, Flavor Cupcakery, was a Food Network Cupcake Wars winner. And, the guy who used to work for her opened another cupcake bakery within the past 6 months, La Cakerie. He won an award with The Knot. Though, I think the Flavor Cupcakery’s taste better and they’re more generous with the icing. They have g-free flavors everyday. My favorites are black bottom and salted caramel.

My oldest goes to college near Philadelphia, they had an event and the cupcakes were catered by another Food Network winner by a cupcake bakery in West Chester, PA, Dia Doce. Those were good, too.

    I love cupcakes.

  18. I’ve always loved to bake but really had to step up my game when my son was diagnosed with food allergies 15 years ago. I’ve gotten pretty good at themed cakes but cupcakes are my favorite. I’ve even made wedding cuppies for two close friends.

  19. I now want a cupcake!! These are so pretty, almost to pretty to eat. And I don’t bake cupcakes, my family prefers cookies, maybe I will make some to change things up.

  20. We have two cupcake bakeries close by. While the cupcakes look beautiful, I find the amount of icing overpowering, which is a blessing.

  21. I just love cupcakes. I make a lot of cupcakes, instead of cakes. I really like to look at them more then eat them. They can be really sweet and sometimes that is what you want but sometime you don’t want that much. So I look at how pretty or cute they can be. I make one for the birthday boys, I have two, with the candle for them to blow out. I’n not a fan of DNA on my piece of birthday cake. So, a cupcake especially for them solves that problem.

  22. There is nothing better than a well made cupcake. I love the new decorations and the skill of those who do the decorations
