The Balkans

The Balkans

Also known as the Balkan Peninsula, the Balkans is a loose grouping of countries in a very mountainous region of southeastern Europe. Several countries fall entirely within the Balkans. Others, like Italy, have parts of its land within the peninsula. A portion of Turkey, for instance, is considered as part of the Balkans. Generally, the Balkans is comprised of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia. As a cultural crossroads, the Balkans has many faces.
