Fantasy Moon

Fantasy Moon

Are you charmed by the moon? It’s a significant part of the night’s adventure and we mark the travel of the moon across the sky by it’s location and its phases. Most cultures on Earth have legends about the Moon and how it was created often associating it with the Sun. A full moon can provide enough light at night to walk easily down a country lane. The absence of moonlight makes the world a darker, more mysterious place. The Moon affects the tides  and stabilizes the Earth’s orbit. The Moon makes us think of what is possible. The Moon is simply beautiful.

FunFacts about the Moon: (Source) (Source) (Source)

  • Astrological relationship: The Moon is the ruling planet of Cancer and is exalted in Taurus.
  • In classical Roman mythology, the Moon was often identified with the goddess Diana.
  • The Moon affects the gravity of the Earth and stabilizes its orbit.
  • The Moon affects the ebb and flow of Earth’s tides.
  • Nurses claim that more babies are born during a full moon than at any other time.
  • The Moon is a dusty ball of rock about ¼ the size of the Earth.
  • The Moon doesn’t produce its own light but reflects light from the sun.
  • The darker craters on the Moon have been known as ‘the man-in-the-moon’, ‘the rabbit’, and ‘the buffalo’.
  • The Moon and lunacy, quote: The Moon has long been associated with insanity and irrationality; the words lunacy and lunatic (popular shortening loony) are derived from the Latin name for the Moon, Luna. Philosophers Aristotle and Pliny the Elder argued that the full moon induced insanity in susceptible individuals, believing that the brain, which is mostly water, must be affected by the Moon and its power over the tides, but the Moon’s gravity is too slight to affect any single person. Even today, people who believe in a lunar effect claim that admissions to psychiatric hospitals, traffic accidents, homicides or suicides increase during a full moon, but dozens of studies invalidate these claims. 1. I have always been fasnicated with the moon. My husband and I use to stay outside on full moons. Even now we try to get out. Always have Windows open on full moons. Been known to howl at the moon on occasions. Enjoying the night and basking in the moon’s glow. Love your pictures.

  2. Love the pictures. Don”t always get to see such beautiful views of the moon. Dependng on the time of year, too many clouds.

  3. In the late 90’s I was driving to work early one morning and I was blessed to see this enormous moon in the sky. Impossibly big. Everyone was amazed at the size and it was the topic of conversation for several days at work. Loved all the pictures, I couldn’t choose a favorite. The moon is where the line between reality and fantasy is blurred. Love the moon.

  4. Love the pictures of the moon. I have always found the moon fascinating. I love the full moon since it brightens everything up at night that it almost seems like it is daylight.

  5. I have always loved a full moon. If there was a special event with the moon, I would even wake my kids up when they were super little to see it. They didn’t appreciate it as much as I did. LOL.

  6. When I was younger I would spend a lot of time watching the moon and stars. Know due to health (arthritis, can’t move my head at all ), my daughter will take photos several times a week of the moon and stars and bring them for me to see. I enjoyed the music videos and loved the pictures.

  7. I’ve been watching the moon ever since I was little. Even now my daughter (who’s learning Spanish) will yell and point La Luna mommy. I love it. and the pictures are beautiful.

  8. I love it when the sun and moon are in the same orbit and you see both of them at the same time. My favorite picture is the yellow moon with the bit of island. And the one with the owl.

  9. I love the moon. The pictures are beautiful and some mysterious. On full moons I sometimes cannon sleep and feel a melancholy.

  10. Wow! What great photographs! I think that many people enjoy gazing at the moon as it truly is wondrous. I especially loved the picture of the lighthouse and the huge moon! Amazing!

    Fort Myers. Florida

  11. Enjoyed all the pictures and my favorites are the two with the ships on the water. Who doesn’t love the magical moon! AZ

  12. I love the photo of the swans with the moon light shining on them.
My favorite type of moon is the blood red moon and the deep orange harvest moons.

  13. Love the moon. I’m up at 12:30 every night so I get to see some really lovely moon views. My favorite photo is of the moon at the end of the dock.
    NE Ohio.

  14. Loved all the pics, especially the “ballooned” elephant in front of the moon. Just imagining an elephant attached to a rising balloon is magical!
Grew up on a farm that had a pond, so spent many nights watching the moon shining on the pond. Amazing memories!

  15. I really liked the music. I don’t think I’ve ever heard about the moon reflecting the sun’s light. Learned something new, so thank you. I want enlargements of all those pictures for my walls. They’re gorgeous.
