Chocolate Mousse

Chocolate Mousse

Is there anything as decadent as chocolate mousse? Whether made with eggs, whipped cream or even yogurt, chocolate mousse is a well-known, rich dessert that will satisfy most palates. Years ago, one of my favorite chocolate mousses was a version served in our family’s favorite Mexican restaurant and made with the liqueur of its name: Kahlua mousse. It really was wonderful.

Here’s the definitive Julia Child, 28-minute version of chocolate mousse made with beaten egg whites coupled with egg yolks cooked carefully with sugar and a bit of coffee. The chocolate is heated separately with rum but you could use orange liqueur or even orange juice as the flavoring. Here’s a 3-minute video making mousse with only water and chocolate. The concept is that the chocolate gets whipped up with cold water and that creates the aeration or mousse-effect. If you’re looking for a healthier version of chocolate mousse here’s a 2-minute video showing how to make it with Greek yogurt and honey.
